Advantages of a devicelink colour conversion
In devicelink colour conversion, colours are transferred particularly precisely and in a controlled manner from one colour space to another. Unlike "classical" colour conversion via ICC profiles, the devicelink method connects two defined colour spaces directly to one another, for example a specific offset printing standard with a special newspaper printing standard (ISOCoatedV2 with ISONewspaper26v4).
The colour conversion profiles preserve the separation structure, limit the total ink coverage for the selected printing standard and preserve the purity of primary and secondary colours. They provide smooth transitions in gradients and enable correct implementation of PDF and PDF/X data. The separation-preserving calculation ensures that pure grey tones are not produced in four colours and that duplex tones (black + primary colour) and triplex tones (black + secondary colour) remain pure and are nonetheless transformed in the most colour-metrically optimal way. In addition, the colour impression of the source colour space is optimally preserved in the target colour space by taking into account both the paper colouring and the tone value gain.
Converting PDF to PDF
Devicelink conversion really shows its strength especially when print-ready data in the form of PDF files need to be adjusted. A typical real-world example: A well-known brand wants to advertise a new product line in advertisements. When the advertisements are placed across different magazines and daily newspapers, the agency must not only adjust the sizes of the advertisements, but also convert the images, logos and vector graphics separately for various colour spaces such as ISOCoatedV2, ISONewspaper26v4, WAN/IFRANewspaper26v5, PSO LWC Improved, PSR LWC Plus V2 M1 v2 etc. and then reassemble them in Adobe InDesign. This is an enormous effort with high error potential.
With a devicelink colour conversion, the agency always works in ISOCoatedV2. It only adjusts the sizes of the advertisements for the different media and then has the advertisements converted by proof.de from ISOCoatedV2 via devicelinks into the required colour spaces. This saves the agency a lot of time and means it doesn't need to keep separate images, logos and graphics for each colour standard.

Limiting total ink coverage (TAC)
For current printing standards from ISO, Fogra, ECI, IFRA, Gravure (PSR), Gracol, Swop, SNAP, these profiles provide targeted limitation of maximum ink coverage without completely re-separating. This safely prevents marking problems and improves drying behaviour. These profiles are suitable when the data is generally already in the desired printing colour space, but individual images or objects have excessive ink coverage.
